Why was the Regency era's fashion so plain?

The Regency era's fashion, which spanned from 1811 to 1820, may seem plain compared to other eras due to its emphasis on simplicity and comfort. This period marked a shift away from the elaborate, stiff, and restrictive clothing of the previous eras, as people started valuing ease of movement and natural body lines. The Napoleonic Wars also played a part in this shift, as the more modest and practical outfits reflected the society's somber mood and economic constraints.
